Medieval North Conference

A veritable feast of Viking lectures, hosted by the University of Iceland, will be held on April 15th through April 17th. The event is free and will take place online. For Eastern Viking fans, of particular interest on the first day is the lecture “The Byzantine Last Judgement in Flatatunga of Iceland. A New Approach” which is held by Ioannis Siopis, PhD student at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at 9.15 am and which opens the show.

On April 16th we have two lectures back to back to do with Eastern Vikings.  At
13:30 Carina Damm, PhD student at the University of Leipzig, Germany will give her talk entitled: “Raiding for Love – Patterns of Polygyny among the Eastern Vikings”
Then at 14:00 Karl Farrugia, MA student at the University of Oslo, Norway will present his findings in a talk called: “Did the Arabs Call Vikings ‘Magians’? A Reevaluated Analysis.”

On the final day, our very own Ryan Fenster, PhD student at the University of Iceland will speak about  “Adalbert in Kiev: The Story of an Unsuccessful Missionary, 959–962 AD.” You can find his MA dissertation, The West on The North in The East: Western images of the Norse and the Rus’, 800-1250 AD in the dissertation section.
